Washington's Adopt-a-Highway program is a volunteer anti-litter and roadside cleanup campaign intended to promote pride and local ownership in the state. Signs are located on roadways statewide, recognizing the 1400+ volunteer groups that spend time picking up litter on over 5,000 roadside miles - about 1/3 of Washington's highways. Almost 600 tons of litter are removed each year - equivalent to over 38 million aluminum cans!

Red Lion Hotels Corporation is proud to sponsor Washington's Adopt-a-Highway program and encourages associates and their families to volunteer. Participants must be at least fifteen (15) years of age. Participants under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. All participants must complete a Participant Registration Form and attend a video-based safety training prior to picking up litter. Several safety training sessions will be held the week prior to each event, with an additional session the morning of the event. Please contact the event coordinator for a complete schedule.

Each session is limited to twelve (12) participants, including group leader(s) - so sign up early! Participants are required to wear a safety vest (provided), gloves, long pants, a long-sleeve shirt and thick-soled boots or shoes. Participants are encouraged to bring plentry of water to drink during the activity, especially during the summer months.

Participants will meet at the RLH building at 8:30 A.M. (8:00 for those who require safety training) and carpool to the work site. No more than four (4) vehicles can be parked on the highway shoulder within the assigned work area during an activity; as such, we may carpool to a central location and shuttle volunteers to and from the worksite.
